Hidden Treasures

“... People with any discernment often can see the issues and problems in a person without seeing the Treasures that may be be buried in them …" I wish I could remember where I read that.  It stopped me in my tracks. I resemble that remark, far more than I would like to admit.

“The Count of Monte Cristo” with Jim Caveizel is one of my top ten favorite movies of all time.  Yes, it is that good!  I have seen numerous parallels to the Word of God and the struggle to live a Christian life in this movie.

In one pivotal scene he is hunting hidden treasure.  It has laid untouched and dormant for decades.  With a map from the original Treasure Hunter he was able to find it, relatively easy.  There were no indications, on the surface, of the vast wealth hidden underneath.  He had to “deep dive” to find it.  He had to follow the map to the letter.  He had to be persistent and dilligentHe had to actually believe it was down there.

How many times have we been completely oblivious to hidden Treasure in some one.  It lays untouched, dormant.  No indications, on the surface, of the greath wealth hidden underneath.  We see the faults and problems on the surface.  We don’t ask the original Treasure Hunter for a map to find their buried Treasure.  We may even be totally unable or unwilling to “deep dive” with them to find it.

I just want to take a minute and thank God for all who have taken the time to “deep dive” with me.  Who have encouraged me, taught me, loved me and even corrected me when my “Treasure” was not visible.  When my faults were obvious and “rocky”.   Thank you and thank You God for sending them.

The Word of God tells us to “Provoke one another to Love.” Hebrews 10:24. New International Version puts it like this … “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, …"

Father give us eyes to see the Treasure in each other, and ourselves.  Give us Your Treasure Map, Your heart, to see the great Treasures in others and how we can “provoke” and “spur” them to great things in You and for You.
