Fear.
It is a driving force in our world right now.
It is motivating some horrible people to do horrible things.
It is not of God.
It is the opposite of Faith.
It cripples faith because,
It fuels satan's power in our life.
God has not given us a spirit of fear. II Timothy 1:7 tells us. So, there is a Spirit of Fear. It is most certainly not of God. That verse, further, tells us He has given us a Spirit of Power, Love and a Sound Mind. Interesting nouns He uses to describe the opposite of Fear The counter balance and path to overcome it ...

First thoughts of the morning are when I seem to hear Him most clearly. I awaken and talk to Him and sometimes satan, telling him to leave me (or my family) alone.
This morning He began to discuss Fear with me. I knew, a long time ago it was not to be played with (one of my strongest objections to Halloween). He showed me there are natural things which illustrate and or resemble spiritual things to give us insight and (sometimes) warning.
Two symbols used to do that (where Fear is concerned) are spiders and snakes.
They are natural creatures. They were made by God but, like Faith, it has been perverted to harm us ... creating Fear. They are creatures which can hide. You can even step near them and be unharmed but, not likely. They can advance on us from seemingly nowhere. They can be in our most private and secretive places. They can be anywhere. We are never without the threat. They can strike suddenly even secretly (those bitten by a brown recluse can rarely remember being bit). They can come out of nowhere. They can kill.
Spiders symbolize something smaller (in the overall scope of your life). A flat tire, for instance (as opposed to a car accident). Something you can easily eliminate with a stomp, swat or spray (by yourself). Not usually a stronghold or more intense spiritual situation like spouse having a bad day (as opposed to an Affair). Something that appears suddenly and can be dealt with in a quick blow but ... if ignored can breed and lay "eggs" that will create a much bigger problem or situation. Something that has potential to harm, or even kill ... if ignored or not respected. A splinter is a harmless thing. Left untreated it can create infection which can create Sepsis which can cause death. I often see Spiders, as a from of warning. Sometimes I see them "in the spirit". For instance, something will "catch the corner of my eye". I will think, "Oh, a spider." but, when I turn to look it was merely a string or shadow. Yes, I know this happens to everyone and ... I don't mean every time. When it is a spiritual warning there will be something that "pings" off your spirit. Something that hits you on a spiritual level. It will not be fear. It will concern. It will feel like a warning. Sometimes I will literally see a spider. I kill it, no matter what and, as I do I bind whatever evil the enemy is forming. Again, not always, but often I recognize it as a warning of something the enemy is forming.
Snakes symbolize something more dangerous and carry a more important warning. They can strike quickly almost before you can see them. They can hide anywhere ... for months even. You could be in public, in your car or even in the privacy (and perceived security) of your own bedroom. You can be dead in minutes. They can destroy quality of life. They can injure, harm and cause great pain. Before you could even have time to call out ... you could be destroyed. They can not easily be dealt with. You need a tool (gun or shovel) or someone's help (usually) to neutralize them. Of course, with the Word of God we can easily overcome them, like anything else satan tries to do. When we know. When we are warned. Sometimes I will be going about my completely normal, calm, boring day and I will have a thought / image (mental) / idea of a snake. I have learned to pause and picture the details of the snake (this may give you more details as to what satan is planning and how to pray more accuratley). This is a warning from the Holy Spirit satan is forming something. He is wanting us to neutralize it, with our Words ... based on the Word of God, free of Fear. He is showing us how we can avoid the danger. Also, I will "see" one out of the corner of my eye (like above).
At first, these warnings made me afraid and I would even ignore them. I was just not sure what they were but, as my relationship with Jesus grew I began to see they were (like the blinking light on my dashboard) a great help. No, no one wants to see it go off but, an early intervention can save me from a costly problem.
In Genesis we are taught how to deal with "snakes". Father God promised one would come Who would "crush his head" Genesis 3:15. Jesus has already crushed his head. We just have to enforce, speak and believe it His Word and sacrifice was for us. The spiritual counterpart is with the Word of God .
Imagine you were immune to spider or snake bite / attack.
Imagine no matter what it did, it couldn't harm you.
Imagine the instant it (even thought about) coming towards you, to harm you, you knew. You instantly knew it's plan. And, you had the power to simply speak and it had to obey! Imagine the power to destroy satan's attacks, when warned. He would be in a constant state of trying to launch a plane with no engines. he wouldn't be able to get anything "off the ground".
Holy Spirit, the Word of God tells us, stands beside us like a loving best friend. He is constantly saying, This is the way ... walk in it. Isaiah 30:21. He is constantly warning us. Our biggest challenge is understanding and being attentive. His greatest desire is to see us walk in the Victory Jesus has ALREADY paid for. How tragic to think a child would live and die homeless and starving outside the gates of their Father's mansion because they refused to go in. We have been given all we need II Peter 1:3. We must believe. We must receive. We must refuse fear. We must exercise and enforce our authority. We must walk in Love, not Fear.
You can have that through the power of Jesus Christ.
We can live free of fear.
You have an enemy. He has actively sought to destroy you from the instant God placed you in the Earth. he has been persistant and he is powerful against your poor pitiful flesh it is no match for him. However ... you can choose to stand in the power and sacrifice of Jesus Christ who CRUSHED him. Crush means to press or squeeze with a force that destroy; to force out by pressing or squeezing; to destroy, subdue or suppress utterly. I choose Jesus. I choose His force. I choose His sacrifice. I choose to NOT fear.
